ikea trip
My Saturday off was threatened by stormy weather and sober september, so when Joe asked if I wanted to go to Ikea I jumped at the chance. Not that I really have disposable income right now but I always enjoy a trip to Ikea.
Of course I ended up getting a few things but I managed to get out of there without spending more than $100. The most important was new pillows for my couch as I ruined my old pillow by trying to put it through the wash. Speaking of Ikea durability, when I tried to rip the tag off of one of my new pillows I definitely almost ripped it completely in half. Thankfully the pillowcase holds it together enough that you'd never know.
Of course, once I commit to swiping my card I go ahead and get a few extra random things that I totally don't need. Like a new rug for the detective:
What was I thinking getting a rug that he blends in with so effortlessly? I've already tripped over him several times, especially because he ALWAYS HAS TO BE LAYING ON IT.
My final impulse purchase, literally right before we got to the register, was these clip together teak tiles:
They don't fit perfectly in my shower but they still look pretty cool if I do say so myself. I'm curious to see if they get super disgusting or not. The teak should be fine but the base of them is plastic which I'm scared it just asking to get soap scum build up. Either way it was $30 for a pack of them so I think it was worth it. It definitely makes my shower seem more fancy than it is.
And my apt looks a little bit more homey, just in time for me to figure out where I'm moving next.

I suddenly live here
I got a call this morning at 7 from the delivery guys that work at the furniture store telling me that they would be at my apt between 12 and 2. Was that really necessary? Apparently.
I couldn't get back to sleep so Jon and I were up all morning doing nothing. He actually asked if we could play Scrabble which led to these first two words. I said that was Jon's nickname for his testicles. He was grossed out.
No sooner had we finished laughing about Jon's pet beans than the couch arrived. I must say, Scrabble looks a lot better like this:
It seems a little obtrusive but I think I'm just getting used to it. I really like having somewhere to sit and so far kitty hasn't payed any attention to it at all.
We played Scrabble for a little longer, I was able to invent an amazing product. Picture it, we live in an alternate reality where people become terribly addicted to figs. Along I come with my brand new product:
It's ingenious.
I also came up with Jon's new nickname:
Though the competition was fierce we both felt we needed to take advantage of the day that we still had after the couch had been delivered.
We ended up at Ikea where Jon found a chair that was just his size:
I happened to glance at the piece of paper laying next to him to discover that it was right up his alley.
I don't know what that means but it sounds perverted.
At least it's not as overt as this:
Why would they name a cookware set after Jon?
I don't know, but however you slice it, I had a productive day for getting apt wares. I ended up finding a $20 coffee table at Ikea that is the perfect size. Not necessarily for my car but Jon was totally ok with being crushed by a giant box for the entire ride home.
And it was worth it, I feel like I have a real apt now! And I don't know if I've ever seen Jon this happy:
So houseguests, you are welcome to come whenever you want. I can't wait!

how I feel
Except I'm not in the passenger seat...and my car is black...and not a ferrari...and I'm not in California. But otherwise, this sums up my life pretty accurately as far as I can tell. I certainly average 283 km/h on my trips to the grocery store.
Speaking of my car, I didn't get anything that I needed at Ikea yesterday because all of the items I wanted were too large to fit. I need to make a friend with a pick up truck.
I also need a job. Still no word from the place I applied to on Sunday, though I emailed them and heard back that they received it. I can't get a good read on these people. I might go back down in person today and show my face.
I'll put the top down so my arrival will be as close to Out Run as possible.

looking forward to a day of this
Meghan sent me that last week when I was complaining about the ikea instructions for the stool I bought. That was only the beginning though. Today I head to Ikea to get even more furniture to be put together.
I am getting another of the chair I already bought so I'm hopeful I will remember how to put it together. I also anticipate that putting together a chair will get me in the right headspace for any other things I might find.
I for sure need something to put my tv on as right now the only way I can watch it is from the cold hard floor. It's not so bad except it makes me way more vulnerable for kitty. He likes to sit right by my head and breath heavily while I try to watch tv, it makes me uncomfortable.
I am debating if I should get more dishes or not. I have been surviving with my tervis tumblers and a single bowl so far, I fear that the more dishes I get the less likely I will be to do the dishes. The real motivation these past few days has been necessity. And its not like anybody else is coming over right now anyways.
We'll see, we'll see. I am hoping that I will get a call about a job at some point this morning which will free up my conscience to spend money at Ikea. Otherwise I will probably talk myself out of anything I deem extravagant like plates. We also have to see how much I can cram in my car again. Thankfully it doesn't look like rain so I can put the top down at least.
How did I ever do this kind of stuff in nyc? I guess I was younger and more full of life back then. Now I'm a grumpy old retired person in Florida. I like it so far.

rabbit, rabbit, rabbit
I am writing you this September greeting from my apartment! Yay, that is pretty much the face I made this morning when I woke up and realized that yesterday really had finally happened.
I do have some pictures to share but for now have bigger fish to fry. Even though it's only a studio apartment it still seems cavernous now that i'm in here without any "stuff" besides my clothing and electronics. I don't even have anywhere to sit! I am writing to you now from a leaky air mattress on the cold tile floor. Jealous? I thought you might be.
Kitty is traumatized. More details to come about our adventure driving down here, but since arriving he has pretty much stayed hidden in the closet. He has come out a couple times because I put his food out in the kitchen, but he acts all crazy and slinks around like he's nervous or something. This morning he was even growling which I don't think I have ever heard him do. I think it makes him uncomfortable that there isn't anywhere for him to hide and plot his murderous activities, another reason why I am anxious to get to Ikea and see what I can get. I feel like a young Paige Davis.
My hope is that I can get some shopping done this morning, bring it back and be done with it. If not I can at least go out in the afternoon and make another run if I have to. The good thing about this place is that it's so small it really won't take much time or money to fill up. Also I am stealing internet from somewhere near by that has a free "guest wireless". That helps A LOT.
First thing's first though. I am going to go do the one thing that I have been anticipating the most ever since I first conceived of living in my own place; yoga.
Happy September!
P.S. I left the Barbie calendar in Sarasota so I don't know when I will be able to share this month's Barbie with you but I peeked the other day and it's good, really good.

finishing touch
A place for everything and everything in its place. He was conveniently gone for all of the cleaning but as soon as things were wrapping up he appeared here in one of his favorite places.
It's about how much room he takes up.
Also, check out this nice plant that I got at Ikea!
