some good screen caps

Earlier in the morning Jon sent me a text asking, "Do you know how they get maple syrup from trees?".  I thought he was joking at first but then he assured me that he was asking genuinely.

Later he asked me what would happen if you put a cough drop up your butt.

I'm going to guess he was wasted that day.

My other screen cap is far less amusing and much more RUDE

I discovered this DEFACING tonight at work.  I'm not sure when it was done but I've got my eye on old Dona Pepa.  She's just jealous that she didn't get top sales and isn't the employee of the month.  That picture is old anyways, I still have to take my September AND October employee of the month photo.

Maybe this time I'll request they be laminated so nobody can do such a horrible thing again.

Boca sunset

The sky was actually blood red but my iphone camera couldn't pick it up properly at all.  Still, Angely made me go out to take a picture because her phone was dead.  When I showed her that it didn't show up she insisted she could do it better, but she could not.

It was just too marvelous to be captured.  I think we all learned a valuable lesson that day.  I learned that sometimes beautiful moments are meant to be captured in your memory, not on your iphone.  And Angely learned never to look through the photos on my phone haphazardly, cause you never know when you'll see more than you bargained for.

back to work

My three day weekend is coming to an end today and I'm looking down the barrel of an 8 day work week.  At least I got something accomplished, and made it to the beach not once but twice!

No complaints either way.

And I know somebody who is looking forward to some uninterrupted time to sleep.

sorry to abandon you

My life the past week has been work and draining my leg hole so I think you'll agree the less I share the better.

I've also just been really focused on getting through this week, and tomorrow morning.  I feel like it will go something like this:

and I'm very excited.  It's kind of incredible to think that I got through everything I got through in the past year.  It reminds me of my approach to college.  Just load up as much as possible on my plate and I just put my nose to the grindstone until I'm done as quickly as possible.

On to the next one.

Not yet sure what that will be though.  I'm glad to have a new adventure at work to look forward but that won't happen until next month at least.  I do feel like my job is a good fit for me though after we did an exercise today that involved identifying different body types.  You can imagine my reaction when I turned the page to:

I don't even care that they took french liberties with her first name.  It's like, finally, somebody who speaks to me in a language I understand.  I have no problem staying with a company that expects me to know what Mariah Carey's body type is.

So my on to the next one will have to be something in my personal life.  I have some ideas knocking around in my head but I haven't come to any decisions yet.  Miraculously I have a long weekend ahead of me after a very long day tomorrow, and I plan to have a plan for my future.

In the meantime I'm going to bed early tonight for my A.M. appointment.  Talk to you in the future.

we're having a slight issue

I don't want to get in to too many of the gory details (email if you want them) but as some of you may know I've had a weird spot on my leg for a really long time.  Long story short, it kind of exploded the other day at work.

It's been a pretty wild ride the past few days, still not convinced it's worth going to the hospital over but I'm definitely keeping my eye on it.  Also, that cat is helping a lot with the healing process.

I'll update on my condition when I know more.  I have a feeling it will either be, "everything's A-OK" or, "I'm getting fitted for a peg-leg".

my commute

You know it's going to be a great day when you're behind the toilet truck on your way to work.

where the sidewalk ends

Its been perfect weather for the past few weeks down here.  It's hard to not want to spend every waking moment outside.

I made a special effort to stop at the top of the bridge last time to take pictures, so of course this time I got to the top just as the bridge started opening.

It's crazy to think that there are boats tall enough to need a bridge this high to still open.

I never really noticed how eerily quiet the mechanisms of the drawbridge are.  I guess because it works on hydraulics?  It just seems outrageous for something to large and complex seeming could operate making barely any noise.

I also liked that in the maybe 5 minutes that the bridge was up a seagull landed on one of the horizontal traffic lights just like, "Oh, a new place for me to sit".  He seemed genuinely surprised when the bridge started going down and his roost got turned upright.

Stopping and pondering the mechanics of a drawbridge made me realize I had never explored the area under the bridge, so I made a little detour on my way down.

If you're wondering what's under the bridge it's basically a lot of drunks.  Some homeless, some tourists waiting for the water taxi.  And no, Jon, this is not the water taxi:

Cause if it were I'd be taking it to work and back on the daily.

do not disturb

He only averages about 20 hours of sleep per day so every precious moment counts.  I obviously keep it far too bright in my apartment for his liking.

just a bike ride

I wore my swimsuit under my shorts just in case I wanted to lay on the beach but the storm clouds were too ominous and exercising felt too good so I just continued on my way.

I went over the 17th St. bridge which I always say I should stop at the top of and take a picture but by the time I've gotten all the way up it I just want to coast back down the other side.  For some reason this time I was able to stop myself for a little photo shoot.

I like this panorama I got too:

The bridge attendants station is so weird and art deco.  I love it.

The rest of my bike ride took me through my favorite neighborhoods in Ft. Lauderdale.  Mostly it was the same old same old, although I did see some Halloween decorations that had gone up.  My favorite made me stop and turn around to get a picture.

I love how casual it is.  If it weren't for the "booo" cushion you wouldn't really even be certain it was decoration.  If you look close you'll see that he has he leg crossed at the knee.  Haha, I like him.

uh oh

There was somebody waiting in the shadows for me when I got home from work tonight.  At first he acted scared of me so I just kind of stood there and waited to see what he would do.  After a few hesitant moments he threw himself on the ground and rolled around and headbutted the parking block.

: ( (

He only just barely let me pet him and he felt very thin, but his coat looked so luscious I don't feel like he's just a random stray.  When I found the detective he was so beat up I knew that even if he did belong to somebody they obviously weren't taking care of him.  This guy seemed generally ok, and after a little bit of time with me he just stood up and walked away in to the night.

We'll see if he starts making more appearances around here.  He would certainly be a handsome companion for the detective, although that's a lot of fluffy cat to deal with in this tiny apt.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JONATHAN

I have no amazing gift for Jonathan this year.  Usually I find something amazing just in time, like this:

Or this:

but honestly after gifts like those I really don't think I can top myself.  Since I guess he isn't coming down to visit anytime soon I don't have to worry too much.  Hopefully Mariah can hold him over.  I'll throw in some pictures of the detective for good measure:

you have to look at the shadow

When my sister was here we went for a walk around my neighborhood and there was even an iguana sunning himself at the bridge.  It was an awkward time of day for me to try and take a picture so far away with my iphone but I tried anyways.  When I first looked at it later I figured there was no point in posting it.  Then I noticed the shadow.

It should give you a fair indication of his size actually.  I mean, you can even see his thorny dragon spiked back.  He was definitely the biggest I've seen since I've been down here.  The kind that could break your ankles with the whip of its tail.

I liked him.

I also like the name of this realtor who is trying to sell a townhome in my neighborhood.

She sounds like the kind of person who would keep a pet iguana.

rabbit rabbit rabbit

In the midst of my long and tedious day I got this email from Meghan.  I had forgotten she was back to work now.  It's kind of weird to see that old email signature, like the past year didn't ever really happen.

I wish.

At least I have sober September behind me, the weather is getting cooler, and I'm almost back to feeling like a normal person.  Maybe I'll even get back to a post a day!

For the month of October I'll use Percy's icy glare as my motivation to stay on the right track.
