Starr's nails

I'm obsessed.  I had never considered such a thing as gold tips, it looks so fancy.

Kim, you need to get on this action.

he's angry

I haven't been catering to his every whim lately so he's been acting particularly ridiculous.  He rarely sits in my lap and I don't think I've ever seen him rest his head on my leg like this.  Normally he just digs his claws in to my thigh and screams like I'm hurting him if I try to pet him.

Maybe Kim was right, maybe he is mellowing in his old age.

Or maybe he's planning something more terrifying than I could ever imagine.  Jon said he liked this picture because it looked like he was going to strangle me:

It does seem like he's been spending a lot of time just a little TOO CLOSE for comfort.

I think it's time I found a guard dog to protect me...

because he's SO TIRED

The detective is recovering from all the attention he got while Kim was here.  Even though he's sad that Jon got bronchitis and couldn't come down, he's obviously relieved to catch a little shut eye.

Now that I'm back to work he'll have plenty of time to do all the things he does when I'm gone all day.  I'm guessing it's a lot more of what you see in that picture.

this guy

I feel like I showed Kim a good time in Ft. Lauderdale, including a fair smattering of wildlife.

I'm sad she has to leave tomorrow but I'm glad that Jon is coming down.  So much excitement in the past few weeks.

we made it to the beach

It hasn't been the nicest weather for Kim's visit but we did at least get down to the water this morning so she could go for a swim.  Afterwards we went for a bike ride and it did actually end up getting sunny enough that I got tan lines from my tank top.

I'm hoping that it will be beautiful tomorrow and that we can spend all day at the beach.  For now we're watching the Golden Girls and trying to motivate to go out for dinner.

happy birthday Kim!

This is how Kim got to wake up on her very special vacation birthday this morning.

Despite the torrential rains trying to keep us apart yesterday, it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day today in South Florida.  I unfortunately have to tend to a few adult chores but then we're heading down to Miami for birthday dinner and general rabble-rousing

it's so glorious

I finally bit the bullet and signed myself up for tv and internet this week and, by some miracle, it was delivered today on my day off.  It took me longer than expected to get it all up and running but I am now completely connected.  Laptop, computer, and cell phone are synchronized.  Non stop reruns of the Simpsons and Family Guy playing while I finished cleaning up.

I'm all ready for Kim to come!!!

I love her!

Now if our meetings with corporate to learn about product were more like this, I think I would understand fashion a lot better.

Thank you Kim for sending this to me.  She makes me happy.

I completely understand

In the long list of reasons why today SUCKED BALLS was included the fact that my battery on my phone was not cooperating with me.  I could tell it was up to no good right away, I had it plugged in all night and didn't unplug it until right before I left the house, but it had already lost a sliver of charge by the time I reached my first destination.  I didn't use my phone at all today, only to check the time, but still I lost it by the beginning of my break.  So besides the other terrible things that happened, I didn't even have my phone to distract me and lift my spirits.

My intention, per my facebook status, was to go to sleep as soon as I got home and forget this terrible day ever happened.  But I decided I should do laundry so I could wear clean clothes to work.  I think remembering dumping iced coffee all over myself this morning was what made me feel a load of laundry was in order.

Anyways, the point that has to do with Elvis is, I'm glad I ended up having to do my laundry because instead of going to sleep I decided to check the internets and have a cup of tea (hot toddy) while I wait. Had I not I wouldn't have seen this email from Kim:

So every time I listen to Elvis now I have to listen to Mariah Carey right after. Because she beat him.

And had I not read that email I would have never watched that clip of Elvis performing Teddy Bear, which will always be my favorite Elvis song after Blue Christmas.  Teddy Bear makes me think of my father taking me to school in the 2nd grade.  As I've probably mentioned before there are only a few cds I remember my father playing in the car.  Elvis, the soundtrack to Pretty Woman, and Whitney Houston's I'm Your Baby Tonight album.  I think that pretty clearly explains my musical tastes.

I had never watched that clip of him singing it before though.  He was pretty fantastic.  Oh and Kim, the two girls in the audience clapping with each other are obviously you and Ariel.

And I get your point, I feel compelled to watch Mariah too.  It's just so interesting to compare the two and the things about each that made them each so unique and incredible.

The best part is that listening to these songs and watching these videos has completely made me forget what a terrible day I had.  And isn't that what you think they both would want to hear?

I found my new ringtone

Thank you Kim for sharing this me.  I don't know where you found it but I'm thankful you did.

I love that pipe organ!

see I'm just trying to help you

Thank you Kim for sending me this article that totally justifies everything.

Maybe when people ask me what my blog is about now I will tell them it increases productivity.  Although I guess I mostly post picture of the detective who is decidedly not a baby animal.  Maybe this means it's time for me to get a puppy.

You know, for you guys, and your productivity.

check out these talons

Fabienne sent me this picture this morning of her new nails.  They are too perfect.  I am obsessed.

The only thing that would be better is if I could see them in person.  The gold is so dazzling, I want to see it sparkle.

Kim, you need to see this.

1 million times better

Kim sent me the link to "meowbify" my blog which resulted in this amazingness.  I was the most pleased that they chose that gif to represent my entire blog, as it pretty much sums everything up quite nicely.

From now on when anybody asks what my blog is about I'm just going to send them that gif.  If only there was a way to sync it up with some Mariah...

another nyc day

I was left to my own devices for the day yesterday as Meghan and Sam both had to return to work.  I decided to take myself out to lunch at barnyard where I got a really amazing brussel sprout salad among other things.  I holed myself away for the better part of the day since the heat is really intense in the city right now.

But come the afternoon I did venture out to meet up with Kelly.  We decided to meet at 59th and 5th and then walk through the park.  When I got there I texted her saying I was underneath the spinning airplane.  She was confused at first but then quickly understood.

Kelly and I retreated to the shade of the park and found a nice bench to sit and catch up.  Make new friend but keep the old and all that.  It was really really nice.

As it got closer to 5 Kelly walked me up the park to the Met where she had to leave to go do homework but I was adopted by Esha.  Another person I was glad to get to see.

And a great person to walk me through Schiaparelli and Prada exhibit in Meghan's absence.  My only regret is that I didn't know that one of the dresses was made from monkey fur.

After uptown Meghan and I left Esha and headed down to meet up with Kim, Ariel, and JD for dinner.  We ended up sitting at thai son for several hours catching up.

All in all it was a whirlwind day in new york that made me miss living here a lot.  I was sad this morning to say goodbye to Meghan at the 51st St. stop.

I will be back soon though.

Kim looking awesome

I need to see this in person.

I had no sooner finished reading Kim's blog than I got an email from the wordsmith herself.  This part just made my day:

"On Friday I saw this woman I used to work with and she was like "you don't update your blog often enough, but I love your cousin's blog! The one from Florida?" And I was just like "oh, the one with the luxurious long blond hair?" I was so thrilled by the notion that someone thought we were related that I didn't want to disillusion her. "

I found some old pictures of us

We have some vintage magazines at work and while I was perusing one today I came across this picture of me with Kim and Ariel at a spring festival in Sweden from some point in the last century.

Or maybe they wer just using black and white film and this is a picture from any point in the past 8 years. Who can tell.

There was even a picture of Nathanael from the same festival!

It really brings back memories doesn't it guys?

my bottom lip will never uncurl

Thank you Kim for sending this to me.

I like how they both are so shocked when it's taken away from them.

I love them.

happy birthday kim!

If you've never been you should check out kim's blog, the post that's up right now made me laugh so hard I cried.

Happy Birthday Kim!!  I'm sad I wasn't in NYC to take an awkward picture with you.  Soon though, very soon.
