I think I have to be this

The other night I was asking Brendan what I should be for Halloween and he suggested Pippi Longstocking.  My initial reaction was no because she is a confirmed red head and I am far from that, but he asked me to just put my hair in pigtails to see.

When I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror with my hair up in pigtails I realized there was only one person I looked EXACTLY like.  Ermahgerd!

I just need to find some Goosebumps books and figure out how to make temporary braces and I'm golden.  I'm going to practice my smile in the mirror today.

rabbit rabbit rabbit

Hehehe I've been saving that picture for months now to use for Halloween rabbit rabbit rabbit.  Apparently it had just eaten a cherry, not actually attacked somebody's throat, but the visual is spot on.

So glad to be done with September, although flipping the calendar page this morning was a little overwhelming.  There is definitely a lot of writing all over this month.  Most of it is related to my new job though so I'm pretty excited.  I have about a week of training to get through before I can actually start though so I'm just going to have to keep focused on other things.

Like figuring out where I can get some black outfits to wear.  I have black pants and a black sweater and that's it, I have a feeling those are going to get real old real fast.  It's a good thing I can always look to Barbie for inspiration:

I mean, if that doesn't look like me on my way to work I don't know what does.  I like the leopard print but those boots are hideous.  They need to be shorter and more fitted so they look less like cardboard paper towel tubes.

That being said it's still an outfit to consider for halloween this year.  I could go as Barbie flasher!  I have no idea what I will be doing for Halloween so I don't know if that would be appropriate or not but I will keep it on the back burner.  Otherwise I can always do my cop-out costume from last year of Kurt Cobain.  All I need is a flannel shirt and to pull my hair down in front of my eyes.

But there's no need to jump to decisions now, I have 30 days to plan.  If September taught me nothing else it's that a lot can happen in 30 days.

haha it's him!

I was in a jet-lagged haze all day yesterday so I ended up spending the evening playing flash games online while I waited to pass out.

If you haven't played Sushi Cat you should.  Especially if you like adorable kitties, and plinko.  One of the features they added to this sequel to the original is the ability to unlock different outfits.  You can imagine my delight when I unlocked the detective.

I wonder if I can commission a seamstress to make me that outfit for my detective.  He would look so handsome.  I also really like fancy cat.  Really any of those outfits would look great on the detective.  And you know he loves to wear outfits...

He's happy.

Huckleberry Finn *FIXED*

I recently got a new pair of suspenders for these pants from G-star.  I wore them the other day for the first time, feeling pretty snazzy, and went to show them to Skyler for his approval.  While he liked my outfit he commented that I looked like Huckleberry Finn.  It's not what I was going for but I kind of agreed so I took this picture later that night to share with my friends and loved ones:

If anything I felt like I looked like a young newspaper editor, working late on the issue that would surely make his career.  But still, I took this picture and posted it on facebook saying that Skyler thought I looked like Huck Finn.  While most of the comments were positive and approving there were a few JEALOUS HATERS who felt the need to comment on how I wasn't smiling.

Firstly, let me just say, it takes a lot of concentration for me to hold a cell phone steady, get my entire body in the frame, and keep my lazy eye from wandering off moments before the picture is finally taken.  Secondly, it wasn't supposed to be a literal interpretation of Huck Finn.  I wasn't wearing a costume, it was just my work outfit that kind of looked like that.

But I decided to follow Ellen's example and turn my haters in to my motivators.

Is that a happy enough Huckleberry Finn for you?

I actually feel like without the hat and empty bottle of courvoisier I look more like Brendan Fraser from the Mummy than Huckleberry FInn:

But I'm sure now you're all going to say, "oh excuse me, Breandan Fraser wasn't that happy in the Mummy, your face is bad and you should feel bad".

Whatever, I can't please everybody, I'll just keep pleasing myself.

for Heather

After I showed my neighbor this post I did when I was watching her kitten I received an email of Heather's mom in her Halloween costume with this message attached:

"My mom wanted me to ask you if you see a resemblance between Mia and Grammy"

I do...

It's uncanny actually...

on the good ship lollipop

My friend Toby came from new york for halloween weekend in ft. lauderdale, I'm sorry that my posting has been nonexistent.  If it's any consolation it's because I was doing things like spending the day on the boat pictured above, courtesy of friends of Toby.

I sent that picture to Meghan because I had heard it was snowing up north and I wanted somebody to be jealous, which she was.  I had to come clean though about the reality of the situation.  That picture has more camera tricks working for it than a barbara walters special.  This was more what a lot of the day was:

All of us huddled on the back deck watching the deluge.  It was a typical Florida day where the driving rain would start and stop at a moments notice so those of us foolhardy enough to keep going upstairs would then have to try and climb down the narrow slippery staircase as the waves and rain pelted us unmercifully.

Being inside had it's advantages too though.  Namely this handsome guy who, much to everyone's delight, shared the name Toby:

I also spent a good deal of my time inside perched on the edge of the couch so I could watch the horizon to keep from throwing up.  It's crazy how in the canals you notice how big the boat is by how little it is affected by other boats wake, but once you get out in to the ocean you're reminded of how insignificant you are as the waves toss you about.  One thing that was not tossed about by the waves however was this beautiful glass sculpture of a wave:

I spent most of my inside time here so I could see out the windows, but I would also watch that sculpture as the boat tipped from side to side and it never moved!!  Even when all of the drawers in the kitchen came flying out and everything crashed to the floor it still stayed right there.  That is craftsmanship right there.

But the trip wasn't all rain and roughness, there were grace periods, especially when we got down to Miami.

We even got to do one of my favorite nautical activities; making motorists wait.

As we cruised down the Intra Coastal and got deeper in to Miami proper I kept looking for the bad girls house but I never saw it.  I saw a couple that looked like it but I don't think it was it.  I also tried to be on the lookout for Rosie or Gloria but neither made an appearance.

We kind of just got to Miami when we had to turn and head back so I only got a glimpse of downtown proper.

Which was fine as the hosts of the afternoon had been more than generous already with their time and toys.  I just hope I get a chance to do it again.

Upon returning to Ft. Lauderdale there was little time to spare before we headed to a halloween party.  I felt bad that I wasn't dressed as anything but I was glad I went regardless.  I have seen more amazing houses in the past two days here than you'd believe.  And costumes!  So many good costumes, but I have no trouble naming my favorites.  Toby's friends Bill and Jed win the grand prize in my book:

Half of the amazingness of these costumes was how much joy it brought me when I would look at them and the other half was the joy on other people's faces when they would see them for the first time.  I mean really, I still can't get over how much I love these costumes.

Though I have to give credit to the runner up who was literally running around the party the whole night just being nice:

I want a doggy that I can dress up in costumes and have run around and smile at people.  And since that's pretty much all I've seen in Ft. Lauderdale the past two days I'd say I'm in the right place for it.

I'm not sure what's on the agenda for today.  It's overcast and rainy again, lame.  I guess it's time to wake up human Toby and figure it out.

Happy Halloween!  : )

rabbit rabbit rabbit

I can't believe I didn't even realize it was the first until I posted those pictures of the sunset!  Nobody else has gotten me yet with the rabbit rabbit rabbit at least so I'm still doing better than others for having realized even by now.

It's October!!  I have no idea what I should be for Halloween.  My problem at this point is that I don't know where I will be for Halloween, which greatly will influence my costume.  Dressing slutty is no fun when you're somewhere cold, I learned that lesson enough times in new york.  Don't get me wrong, I still went out even last year in nothing but a speedo, but still, it's not always fun.

I really liked the year I wore the clown mask, maybe I should think about something like that again.  I saw this costume on reddit.com the other day and loved it:

And it makes me feel like I should incorporate kitty in to my costume some how.  He does make a perfect Halloween kitty.  Just like Thackery Binx!

So many ideas to mull over.  At least I can fall back on October Barbie as a costume if I can't come up with anything better:

it is halloween, it is halloween

Had a fun time this weekend, don't remember too much of it.  Today meghan and I at lunch on the upper east side and then had a beer at that german place on 86th and 2nd, so we saw lots of kids in costumes.  It was really sweet.  Having been in nyc for so long now I've grown accustomed to the trick or treating at stores that kids in the city have to do, but meghan was still amazed by it.  I guess it is wild to think how different those memories are than for those of us that grew up in the suburbs.  It's like when you think about how no other countries celebrate thanksgiving.  It's just uncomfortable.

The best costume I saw all weekend was a man walking down 77th street dressed as the pillsbury dough boy.  He was a rather portly gentleman so he was able to go without a shirt and just have white body paint on and he pretty much fit the description.  And I thought my costume was revealing.
