last picture before oil pulling

I'd heard about oil pulling before, probably back in my hardcore hippy days, but I've been obsessed with it recently since it popped up on radar and I read an article about it online.  Basically the idea is you swish coconut oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes in the morning and it's supposed to have a myriad of different health benefits.  It seemed across the board that people experienced teeth whitening so I figured, even if that's all that happens, it would still be worth it.

I finally went to whole foods today and picked up some unrefined coconut oil and did my first session just now.  I have to say, it was kind of gross, there were a few moments during the 20 minutes that I got freaked out.  I think I may have used too much oil too, I hadn't considered that the volume increases as your own saliva gets added to the disgusting mix.

But I made it and am excited to incorporate this in to my routine.  I'm going to try to take a picture of my teeth every friday so we can tell if there is actually any whitening going on.

a nice place to read (?)

I went downtown yesterday to Whole Foods for a juice and a shot of ginger.  I was hoping to be able to find a spot outside to sit and read but it was a crowded saturday so I ended up driving a bit down to Van Wezel and this spot.  You may remember it from this post.

While it looks quite picturesque it was not exactly the best day for sitting here and reading.  The Irene related winds were whipping to the extent that you had to keep your fingers on all four corners of the book to keep the pages still enough to be able to read.  And my idyllic spot at the end of the cape was really just an opportunity to be misted every time the water spramp* ashore.

*bonus points if you know that reference

Anyways, it was still a nice place to sit and enjoy my juice and my book.  I'm reading a meghan recommendation right now that is so so good.  I will surely do a post when I'm finished with it, which I'm sure will be soon.

So excited for the last week of August.  So so excited.

i didn't even have to stand in front of a mirror to make it appear

I went on a special journey to the whole foods in downtown sarasota to get my favorite bloody mary mix that's made by McClure's. I first discovered McClures at Murray's Cheese Shop in Grand Central when I would go to visit lilly, but then found that they carried it at the whole foods on Houston as well. Meghan and I have purchased many a jar, you know, for our vitamins.
Anyways, I get to whole foods and can't find it anywhere. The only bloody mary mixer they had was disgusting and had corn syrup in it. That's the thing I don't understand about whole foods, I mean they do have a lot of things that you can't find anywhere else, like thai coconuts, but then they also have a lot of nasty stuff that is in no way good for you. So there I was in whole foods, desperate for my vitamins, with no way to satisfy my urges.

Then I remembered that we made our own bloody mary mix at Simple. I haven't done it in a year but I still remembered all the fixins, so I made my own. It was so good!!!

Tomatoes, celery, jalepeno, red onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and plenty of vitamin V. Delicious.

I sent Meghan a picture of the two glasses and she said it looked like the celery was throwing up its arms in celebration. I think we all were.
