I love shuffle for this

Granted leaving my entire music library on random provides for some awkward moments like when a book on tape comes on and totally ruins the flow.

BUT, it's all worth it for when I'm reminded of gems like Dirrty which I inexplicably removed from my main playlist at some point in the past decade.

That's right, this song came out in 2002.  I'll never forget, this CD will always make me think of Jenny. I bought Christina and she bought Beyonce and then we traded copies.  I miss those days, and I miss this Christina too.

Although I did love Burlesque...

The best part of putting my itunes on random of my whole library is that I am reminded of things like this.

For some reason I have the album from this whole performance, which features a lot of hilarious sketches.  This one however just always makes me happy and sad at the same time.

I knew there was a Mariah song but I couldn't think of it when I did that post earlier.  It's because it's Jay Z that says it, I wasn't thinking outside the box.  Thank you Jonathan for reminding me of this NECESSITY.

I couldn't decide if it was too soon

I wanted to listen to christmas music but I felt like it was still too early.  That was until yesterday when I was looking at old posts on my blog and realized that a year ago today I posted this.

So now I'm opening the floodgates.  I'm going through my itunes and checking all the christmas music so it will play on random again.  If it weren't 80 degrees outside I'd be picking up eggnog and decorations as well.

It's supposed to cool down this weekend, maybe I'll wait until then.  In the meantime I'll be listening to her cds on repeat.

How could I have forgotten about this?

Having my entire itunes library on shuffle is fun sometimes because I'm reminded of songs like this.

I think my having this cd is a result of my freshman year R.A., but I still have to take responsibility for keeping it in my itunes this whole time.

This morning while I was cleaning I had my itunes set to shuffle through all of my music.  I rarely do this because I have a lot of really random stuff on there that doesn't really work when taken out of context (stephen colbert's "I am america and so can you").  I know that you can uncheck things and they won't play but i'm too lazy.  

Anyways, a song from the Josie and the Pussycats soundtrack came on and I was reminded of what a great soundtrack it was, and what a great movie.  

I scoured the interwebs (10 minutes of actual looking, with lots of breaks to give kitty nice pets) looking for my all time favorite clip but couldn't find it.  It's when Parker Posey is wearing the choker with the feathers coming out of it.  It's too good to describe if you haven't seen it.  

When I first think of this movie my mind always goes to the amazing Parker Posey moments, so it isn't long before i remember that Alan Cumming is in it as well and is beyond good as usual.  The picture above pretty much sums up their roles in the movie.  I love when he chokes on the m&m.  

The soundtrack is actually pretty good for the movie too.  I was under the impression that they had hired a real band (I always thought it was the veronica's for some reason.  maybe because of veronica lodge.) but according to wikipedia the lead singer on the tracks was some chick from the band letters to cleo and all the back up singing was actually done by the three girls.  Pretty incredible that Tara Reid was doing things like that at one point.  

I never knew this either but apparently the main producer was babyface.  It makes sense, all of the songs seem plausible that you could have heard them on the radio.  Especially the DuJour songs.  Those are too amazing.  The only thing that gives them away as a joke are the lyrics, but otherwise it sounds exactly like something from any one of those boy bands of our youth.  

This is why it's good to listen to all your music sometimes.  You rediscover something you'd forgotten all about.  If you haven't seen this movie you should check it out.

This morning instead of doing any of the other hundreds of things I needed to do, I instead got involved in a three hour project of downloading music videos, watching them, and putting them on my phone. Anybody who has ever made plans with me in new york know that 9 times out of 10 Dan and I get drunk and end up watching music videos until 3 in the morning and then realize that everybody has been trying to call us all night.

So last weekend when Craig started singing En Vogue and then had to pull up a bunch of videos on youtube. It made me question why I didn't have any En Vogue on my phone. This morning I decided, I'm going to download En Vogue music videos. For WHATEVER reason Itunes is really lame and only has a few music videos for each artist. This was the only video they had for En Vogue:

Now I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong, but I was really looking for never gonna get it. Regardless, going to Itunes for the first time in almost a year made me realize that I still had money on my account from some long lost gift card. This is what led to my wasted morning lost in the world of diva's and their music videos.

I have no idea why nobody told me how amazing this video is but I am IN LOVE:

I mean, I was sold right off the bat by the scene of her in bed but it only got better from there. Subtle under the bubbles touching in the bathtub, yes please. 12 year old girl bloomers with a sexy baby tank, more please. Fruity pebbles and sexual inuendo, now that's a first rate video.

I also downloaded some more Mariah, classic Janet Jackson, and some Nicki Minaj. Part of me was glad that she's finally in the mainstream because it means I can download a high def version of her video from itunes, but it also kind of sucks because the edited version of Massive Attack is just ridiculous. I mean, there are giant chunks of time when her lips are moving but you don't hear anything because I guess the whole thing is just one crazy offensive rap. Here is the unedited version, not that you can understand half the things she's saying anyways:

I love her but I kind of wish she was still my little secret, it's not as fun now that everybody knows about her. Still, congrats Nicki.
