HAPPY BIRTHDAY JONATHAN

I have no amazing gift for Jonathan this year.  Usually I find something amazing just in time, like this:

Or this:

but honestly after gifts like those I really don't think I can top myself.  Since I guess he isn't coming down to visit anytime soon I don't have to worry too much.  Hopefully Mariah can hold him over.  I'll throw in some pictures of the detective for good measure:

happy birthday Kim!

This is how Kim got to wake up on her very special vacation birthday this morning.

Despite the torrential rains trying to keep us apart yesterday, it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day today in South Florida.  I unfortunately have to tend to a few adult chores but then we're heading down to Miami for birthday dinner and general rabble-rousing

birthday beach lunch

Even though Daniel led me on with his alleged "dog handling classes" and threats of cancellation altogether, he came through and let me take him out to lunch for his birthday yesterday.  I asked him to come up when he arrived to help me put my bedskirt on, a job I've learned is far easier with two people.  My morning turned in to a whirlwind of cleaning and organizing, once I realized I still had piles of junk on every surface from my move that happened two weeks ago.  My apt isn't 100% yet so I don't want to take pictures but I will say it's almost there now, and my bedskirt looks great!

So thanks Daniel, for unknowingly shaming me in to getting my life together.  And thanks for letting me spend some time with you on your birthday!!

We had a very nice lunch, and I didn't even get a parking ticket despite only remembering that I hadn't paid an hour in to our meal.  I also got to give Daniel his gift, which I was pleased with.

The last time I spent the day at his work I commented that there weren't a lot of toys for the dogs to play with.  He said that the toys don't last very long but that there were a few ones left scattered around.  It seemed really sad that the only one I could find was really just 3/4 of a tennis ball with a rag tied to it.  But the dogs seemed to love it!  At some point after that day I realized that I had to get tennis balls for Daniel for his birthday.

He laughed and was happy when he opened his present but again said that they wouldn't last very long.  When I pressed him for a more specific idea of how long a tennis ball would last he said, "Gypsy can pop a tennis ball in the first bite".

Yikes.

I asked him if it hurt her when it exploded or if it was more satisfying like snapping a neck.  He said definitely more satisfying, so I guess maybe she can have one or two to destroy but I really don't think that's fair to the other dogs that she be allowed to pop all 12.  I asked Daniel to take a video of her popping one though.

Even though I couldn't get the waitress to sing happy birthday, it was still a nice day, and a great way to end my little back to back vacations before getting back to work for many days in a row coming up.  No more of this life of luxury:

Happy Birthday Daniel!!!

This morning I called Daniel and sang pretty much exactly like this to him.  His reaction was similar to Ali, stunned silence.

Daniel is begrudgingly letting me take him out to lunch today but I was instructed not to tell any of the waitstaff.  If there is singing and clapping, so too will there be blood.  But I can't help it if somebody happens to overhear me loudly talking about how it's his birthday right?

I can't wait to give him his gift either.  I think he's going to really like it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JONATHAN

I finally got to give Jon his amazing birthday present that I found like a month ago.  I gave him a bunch of hints about it but all it did was make him scared to open it when the time finally came.  I told him it was as if somebody had gone in to his brain and invented the most perfect gift for him.  I also said that everyone was going to hate me for getting it for him hahahaha.

He was as pleased with it as I thought he would be.  The past few days have been filled with wolf howls, shrieking, evil laughter, and of course the sound of Jon breathing heavily in to it while it was set to amplify.  While I was sad to send Jon back home today I am excited to hear about how much his friends and family love his amazing birthday present.

YOU'RE WELCOME!

happy birthday lindsay

I saw this morning that it was Ms. Lohan's birthday today and commented to Jonathan about it on Facebook.

I had forgotten all about it but was just putting music on to accompany my packing and what should itunes present me with?

I'm tired of rumors starting, I'm sick of being followed.

Has there ever been a time when she wasn't flawless really?  I mean, even her partying/rehab/arrests/court appearances were always on point.

I can't wait for her lifetime movie.

happy birthday kim!

If you've never been you should check out kim's blog, the post that's up right now made me laugh so hard I cried.

Happy Birthday Kim!!  I'm sad I wasn't in NYC to take an awkward picture with you.  Soon though, very soon.

a great day to celebrate

Happy birthday Elliot!!

My trip this weekend was cancelled because of a severe weather warning.  I even received a notice on my phone last night about it.

I am pleased to report that it is nothing but sunshine and blue skies today.  While I am sad to not be able to make my little road trip I am excited to go hang out by the pool all day and celebrate the birth of my coworker.

This song will be blasting today while I have the top down.

Happy Birthday Gramps

When I did a google image search for "91st Birthday" this was one of the first things that came up.  Somebody at Greeting Card Universe is good at their job, of that much we can be certain.

Congratulations Gramps, you made it to 91!  During the past two months when we were all helping out with his doctors appts and whatnot we would frequently be asked to provide his information including date of birth.  It never seemed real when I would say November 9, 1920.  I mean really, 1920?! My grandfather actually remembers when cars were the cool new invention that everybody wanted to have.  And by the car I mean THE car.  Not like the newest model or the fastest hatchback, just the car in general.

It makes me wonder what the world will be like in another 90 years.  I literally can't imagine.

So last year I shared one of my favorite memories of my grandfather, so I'll do the same again this year:

At some point a few summers ago I went over to my grandfather's house to hang out with him.  He has a habit of keeping lists with our names on it and under our names he writes down the things he wants us to help him with.  I actually saw my list before he had a chance to talk to me about it and was confused about why the only thing written under my name was "drip".

I asked my grandfather what the drip was about and he was so excited to get my help with what was apparently a huge issue in his life.  He didn't explain anything to me but just pulled me in to his guest bathroom with him and made me stand with him in silence.  He literally shushed me when I asked him what was going on and pointed ambiguously in to the air saying, "do you hear it?!"

I finally did hear a very faint dripping noise.  This pleased him even more, I think he was worried that he was going crazy, but what he wanted was to find the source of the dripping.  His theory was that it was somehow associated with the toilet but he explained, "it doesn't make sense because the dripping is very consistent early in the morning but then dies down as the day goes on".  I used my super sleuth skills to glance around the bathroom while he was talking and noticed that the window was open.  I looked out the window and saw what I figured I would see, a bucket my grandfather had put under the gutter to collect rain water.  Apparently the morning dew would run off the roof and down the gutter, dripping in to the bucket.

There have only been a few times that I have seen my grandfather as happy as he was when I pointed out the source of the dripping.  He hugged me in sheer joy.  And this is actually a pretty good example of my grandfather's attitude in general.  One might describe him as a bit of a drama queen.

So in case you were wondering where I got it from...

Happy Birthday Gramps!
