A precious angel

In case you can't tell kitty is adjusting to his new life.  He's found his new favorite spots to snooze, and his new favorite pieces of furniture to destroy.  He has gotten more comfortable with going outside but still acts a fool when trying to walk through grass.  He acts like he's walking through quicksand or something.

Scott's backyard has a double deck around the pool, there is a cement section and a wooden section.  For whatever reason kitty has decided that the 3 inch space underneath the wooden deck is his favorite place to be.

Before I got here I had these visions of kitty lounging in the sunlight underneath an orange tree, or curled up on one of the deck chairs overlooking the pool.  But no, his favorite place is a tiny dirty scary area underneath the deck.  Why is he so weird?!

And we are also having to have talks almost daily about how kitty does not need to be catered to all the time.  Like the other day when he climbed on the counter in the kitchen and started tearing in to his bag of treats and Scott responded by opening the bag and giving him treats.  His thinking was, "if I wanted treats that badly I'd want somebody to help me out".  He doesn't seem to understand the concept of reenforcing negative behaviors.

Of course kitty is loving it in the meantime.  I'm going to try and take a video of him exploring the backyard, it really is hilarious.

another

This is in scott's truck.  Is this a common thing now?  Am I behind the times for not knowing about the feline categorization feature on new cars?  I just don't understand.

happy birthday to me

I'm torn about disclosing information about my life, but I fear that it's going to be impossible for me to keep it a secret forever.

I guess I will say this much.  I got a car for my birthday, which has been pretty cool.  It's been 8 years since I last had a car, so in a lot of ways I feel like i'm driving for the first time again.  Plus the car I got is insanely cool, and a car would have been a dream car of mine the last time I was car shopping.  I really can't believe that I own something so nice.

This morning I woke up early and just wanted to go out for a drive.  The destination ended up being the beach, as seen above.  I mean, you really couldn't ask for a more beautiful Florida day.  I took this picture at about 9am and it was already getting warm enough that jackets were being taken off and convertible tops were being taken down.  By 11 I had to stop at CVS and get sunscreen. The walk on the beach even included a dolphin sighting.  Several dolphins in fact, and they wished me happy birthday.  True story.

So after a morning of cruising and breakfasting I met up with my brother for an afternoon of cruising and wandering around the outlet mall.  When we got back to his place this is what we found in the backyard

When I got too close they ran away but it was a family of raccoons!!!  They were wishing me happy birthday too!  I swear.

Couldn't have asked for a better day : )

My car is missing this button

As I posted about before (I just spend 20 minutes trying to find it to reference but couldn't) I am very intrigued by these buttons that I keep finding on car radios.

Also, I love the crazed look on my mother's face.  She's just having a good old time.

s'mores

The day after christmas is my fathers birthday and as much as we try to do fun things for it a lot of times we don't plan anything until the last minute.  Like this year.

The one thing my father asked for was for my brother to make a fire in his fireplace.  We came up with the s'mores and roasted chestnuts, and it ended up being really fun.

I mean, when was the last time that you actually had a s'more?  I couldn't think of my last one.  And they are delicious!  Although actually I was plenty happy with just the roasted marshmallows.  And the chestnuts?  Have you ever actually had chestnuts that were roasted over an open fire?  They are amazing!  They kind of have the consistency of bread pudding.  It's very strange and satisfying.  And each one has an entirely different flavor than the one before it.  Some are sweet, some are savory.  Very very strange.

Of course there's always the absurdity of us gathered around the fire in shorts and flip flops on the day after christmas.  Then we all go out and get in our convertibles and roar down the street with the wind in our hair.  That image definitely goes hand in hand with chestnuts roasting on an open fire.

a christmas miracle

I know I'm late but this has honestly been the first time since christmas that I've been able to catch up more than my frantic new years 1st post.

We had christmas at my grandfathers as usual, and believe it or not this was the first year that we realized the bounty of fresh citrus in his backyard could be turned in to delicious vodka beverages.  I'm sure these crystal glasses were a leftover from when my grandmother had the same idea.

I was in charge of christmas dinner and let me tell you, that may have been a mistake.  I ended up leaving two different main ingredients at my fathers and then totally butchered the green beans.  I thought the pepper had a shaker top on it, when in reality it did not.  Cut to me dumping a half a container of pepper all over the green beans.

My family was sweet about it and said reassuring things like, "Oh but I enjoy pepper!"  and, "You know, sometimes you can't taste the pepper, but I can sure taste it in this dish".  They were all the kinds of things Meghan would say to you while gently placing her hand on top of yours and looking earnestly in to your eyes.

As for the cookies, I think everyone liked them, I know my sister liked her chocolate covered goodies.  At least their gifts weren't saturated with pepper.

Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit

and a happy new year!

I'm feeling guilty about neglecting my blog, and worried that I'm not going to be able to update until I get my laptop situation sorted out.  And I've of course already spent all my birthday money on other things besides new laptops.  Grrrr.

I'm charging my laptop now, hopefully I will be able to do all my backlogged posts later tonight.

In the meantime, enjoy the first day of the new year.  I know I have, it's about 75 degrees out and I've had the top down all day ; )
