hide yo pets

Let's take a little trip back in time to last November

I heard you like adorable kittens

Omg, I haven't looked at those pictures since I took them.  Mia is so big now!!!!  I forgot how tiny and scrappy she was : ((((( I seriously just got teary eyed looking at those.

But that's not the point of this post.  The point is the poster above and what I like to call, "Heather finds a cat; pt 2".  I wish I could promise that this would not be an ongoing saga but it seems that Heather can't help but find herself with extra cats on her hands.

So the other day Heather calls me in to her apt with a pained expression on her face.  She points out to her patio where I see the handsome guy pictured above.  As soon as I see him Heather starts in with, "he's so nice and the girls love him and he's just out there with no collar and I don't know where he came from and he's so nice and I think you should just take him".

It was all a little too familiar for me.  Except my main excuse for not wanting Mia was that I don't want to deal with a kitten so now I had no excuse for why I couldn't immediately take this adult cat off her porch. Except for the fact that I don't want another large cat in my tiny apt, and this cat wasn't necessarily a stray either.  I offered to take Mia and she could take this mystery cat pointing out that they were basically exactly the same.

Heather didn't agree and said I'd missed my chance with Mia.  She felt there was no way this cat was anything but a stray who's only option was death on the streets or a life with me.  She refused to feed it, lecturing me about how strays won't leave if you feed them.  I pointed out that if the detective had gotten lost and was scared and confused I'd like to think that somebody would at least feed him instead of sitting inside with her two overfed cats just staring out at him on the patio and clucking their tongues.  But again my words fell on deaf ears as Heather exclaimed, "You can name him Spots!".

I told her I had to go to work but suggested she make a sign or something to put up in the neighborhood.  As a compromise I left my blinds up all day while I was at work to see if Spots wanted to make friends with the detective.  I wasn't surprised to find out they did not become friends.  The detective is angry.

I was also not surprised when I got home from work to see a man leaving Heather's apt with Spots cradled in his arm.  Apparently, no sooner had Heather put that sign above the mail boxes did she get a call from none other than her next door neighbor on the other side.  Yes, it was his cat who had merely jumped over the fence dividing their patios.  It definitely wasn't extreme for Heather to think that it was a feral street cat who hadn't had a good meal in years.

The good news is that Spots is at home, Heather made friends with "fence neighbors", and it's still just me and the detective together forever.  Although I will say that looking at those pictures of Mia as a kitten really tugged at my heartstrings.   At least I know it's only a matter of time before Heather steals somebody else's pet and then tries to pawn it off on me.

at first I was mad, but then...

It seems like every morning I wake up to one of my neighbors playing their music annoyingly loud.  Today was no exception.

The only thing that made it ok was that they were finally playing some quality music.  Now I'm going to be listening to the bodyguard soundtrack all day.

these guys

Last night I got to hang out with my neighbor Heather which was super fun.  At one point we were talking and I realized that she is the first neighbor I have ever known/been friends with.  She seemed shocked about this until I reminded her that I was living in NYC where your neighbors either don't speak english or are harvesting organs from their apt.  True story, Susanna's neighbors actually were harvesting organs.

Anyways I had a really nice time hanging out with Heather but by about 9 she was ready to decorate her christmas tree and so we parted ways.  I was on the fence about wether I should go out or not but once I saw these nice nice doggies I realized I had made the right choice by venturing out for a drink.

They were just all snuffles and grunts and adorableness.  I don't know what they were doing at the bar but I don't have a problem with it.

I want a nice doggy that I can take to bars with me.

It is almost my birthday...hint hint...hint hint...

it's his house now

Last night when we left to go to dinner we were stopped by our neighbors dog who had decided that our house was his turf now.

He was pretty convincing.  I was afraid to get any closer than this, he had a mean bark.  As far as I'm concerned this place is his now, I just hope he allows us to continue living here.

a gift from carol

it says its white zinfandel but it looks more like a rose to me. My dad has this wacky neighbor named carol who either loves me or greatly distrusts me. At any rate, she gave my dad a bottle of wine one time and he told her that he didn't really like wine but that I did so he would give it to me. Ever since then she randomly leaves bottles of wine with my father for him to give to me. I think it's really sweet.

I think she likes me because I told her she could call me if she ever needed to after she spent 45 minutes telling me about how she kept getting weird gifts left for her on her doorstep. She said it would usually be something really strange like a can of peas wrapped up in ribbon, or a single slice of pie on a plate. The most disconcerting was a nicely wrapped package that contained some sexy ladies underwear and a second place blue ribbon. Because she's quite old and lives alone I told her that she could always call over to our place if she was scared that some creepo was outside and I would check it out for her. At the time she seemed very grateful but I think she has since forgotten all about it, but she still leaves me wine gifts.

So if you need me i'll be watching scary tv shows on my dad's weirdo channels that he gets and losing myself in a glass of the finest zinfandel i've ever had, which i can say with certainty as i think the only other time I've drunk zinfandel was out of a box.
